What if ... all your quirks, eccentricities, flaws, and mistakes are guiding you toward a greater love of and for yourself? Rather than seeing these as something you want to change - can you accept them? Embrace them even?
This has been a lifelong practice and area of growth for me. Rather than hiding the unique aspects of myself - I'm learning to embrace them. My nuances make me who I am and keep me moving forward in a way that works for me. Just because I do things differently than so many others, doesn't make me wrong. It's taken me a long time to see that - but now that I have seen it, I can't unsee it. As for my flaws and mistakes.... well, there's a TON of them. I have spent years punishing myself and carrying guilt and shame for a few of my choices. It's taken a lot of practice to extend myself grace and forgiveness. I'm human. And every human messes up sometimes. When I mess up now, I see it as an opportunity to take a look at myself, to get curious about my motivations and why I chose the way I did, and then move forward and choose differently next time. Expecting perfection of ourselves isn't fair. Life isn't perfect. We aren't perfect. We absolutely will mess up. Learning to extend grace, compassion, and forgiveness to ourselves when we do - is life-changing!!!
